ABOUT VAYA BAGS

A long-time bike rider, Tia Meillinger grew frustrated with uncomfortable messenger bags digging into her back and being destroyed by the elements. In 2005, she decided to take matters into her own hands and make her own bag, customized to her needs; including multiple easily accessible pockets, waterproof fabric, quick release buckles and an easily adjustable padded strap. As someone who studied environmental science and strong believer in reusing and recycling, Tia looked to a local sailboat factory for surplus materials. After several requests from friends and family to make bags for them, a business was born. Tia has since expanded her materials to include recycled bicycle tubes and old vinyl banners. Today, woman owned and operated Vaya Bags come in all shapes and sizes, including messenger, laptop bags, handbags, wallets, and bicycle tube belts. Custom designs from a seemingly endless pallet of colors are available on their site or at their Queens store. Otherwise, you can visit the Vaya Bags website for a full list of retailers that carry the products.
